Book is colorful and easy to understand with pictures, words, and arrow diagrams to aid in forming correct signs. Includes a short introduction to ASL very helpful for 1st timers. The layout is a two page spread for each category with side panals on each page showing the signs. Content is broken down into small chunks. For example the "Feelings" spread has a picture of children in a classroom involved in various activities with a variety of expressions. Each child is labeled with the "feeling" and the signs are shown along the side panels (4 signs in each panel; 8 per category).
This book was bought as a teaching aid. It is good with someone that knows the signs and can demonstrate; On the other hand if kids try to sign from this book they might become confused. The pic are cute and lively colors, you really cannot see the shape of the hands. The book arrived very quickly and it great shape, like new. Quality seller.
This book has great illustrations and I love that there are 100 words in this small, concise book! However, the book is paper, thin paper at that and my daughter is going to rip it up pretty quickly. I ordered some other signing books and they are board books so they are spectacular! If this was a board book I'd give it 6 stars!!
My husband and I are currently teaching our baby, "Baby Sign Language". These signs are ASL and help us learn sign as well.As an elementary teacher, I use sign language in the classroom all the time. This is also a fantastic resource for kids, similar to a "Sign Dictionary" that they feel confident in flipping through. Each page is full of tiny images to look through as kids learn the various signs for a wide variety of vocabulary. It is a bit "Where's Waldo" reminiscent as students flip through page after page looking at the people acting out different signs, the kids try to practice these signs with their hands and body. I would recommend this as a learning tool for any parent or teacher.
I'm 81 years old and I am enjoying this sweet, simple, easy little book. My 10 years old granddaughter islearning sign language on her own and so now I havejoined her. It's fun to sign to her across the table whileher two brothers try to translate it. It won't be long andthey too will want to learn. Grandma Winnie:)
I am trying to teach myself sign language and this is something simple that will teach you common everyday words.
My son is Deaf, and this book aids him in learning everyday signs that he will use as a child. He goes to it frequently to look up words, as he is trying to find his independence in a hearing world.
Bought this as an enrichment activity for my 6-year old homeschool student. It is wonderful!!! We have both learned many words without much effort!! The lessons are very simple, and well explained--love it!! My daughter is thrilled to be learning sign language, and so am I!!!!
