Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old.I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

This book is a great educational tool, but there are some really difficult words to pronounce, and the book is constantly using abbreviations for the African counsels Mandela worked with. It was hard to keep it all straight.

The Who Was…? biography series are perfect for elementary or intermediate age students interested learning about the featured person for an assignment or just for an exciting read. The afterward portion in this edition has a timeline on one side showing key events in Nelson Mandela's life and the opposite page shows worldwide key events during the same time period. Making for an interesting comparison and will help readers get a better feel for what else was happening at those times; a cool extra feature I haven't seen in many books.

You will really learn a lot about South Africa and how Nelson Mandela helped black people. It is also a great historical book

The book clearly displays Mandela’s life. The part that really touched me is concerning what he did in prison. He never gave up fighting against the unfair society. No wonder Mandela was called the greatest man in South Africa. By the way, this book also has a lot of words used in politics. To me, it is a little difficult, but it is an opportunity to learn more as well!

Great resource book for readers wanting to know more about Nelson Mandela. This book gets to the heart of matters in a heartfelt way.Written by Pam Pollack an Meg Belviso, illustrated by Stephen Marchesi.#Grosset&Dunlap

I read this book to my 8 and 11 year old boys. It was a great book, easy to read, and VERY thought provoking. My kids had so many questions as we read. I loved learning more about Mandela myself and it was a great lesson in courage for us all. There are some pictures for the younger kids. I highly suggest this book.

I think this is one of the best book I have ever read in my life. It tells who is Nelson Mandela and what he did for South Africa. I encourage you guys to read this book. This book truly is an awesome book. I love this book so much I am going to read more about Nelson Mandela.
