The Bill Of Rights: Protecting Our Freedom Then And Now
ebooks Download

By 1787, the leaders of America’s 13 newly-created states that had just won their independence from Britain convened to draw up the Constitution of the United States. However, citizens of many of the states feared that a new American government could take away certain of their rights, just as the British had done when they were colonies. It was soon agreed to add a series of ten amendments to the Constitution in order to guarantee specific rights to all citizens and states. These first ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights. Syl Sobel presents each of these amendments in this brand-new book, and clearly explains them in terms that grammar school students will find both meaningful and interesting. In the process, he points out fascinating facets of American constitutional history and law. He also explains how such rights as freedom of religion, speech, and assembly, as well as protections from unreasonable searches and a fair trial by jury apply to all of us in our daily lives. Here is a book that will be valued by teachers and enjoyed by young students. Includes line illustrations, a glossary, and a suggested reading list.

As a homeschooling mother, I am very concerned about bias in the curriculum I choose, particularly when it comes to history and government. Ideally, I should not be able to ascertain the author's political ideology from the published work, and that is definitely the case with this book. I have no idea if Syl Sobel is liberal or conservative. The book is well-written, and keeps my child's interest. It gives a history of the Constitution, and the reasons the Founders had for adding the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. It also touches on the controversy between Federalists and Anti-Federalists, and explains why some of the Founders were against adding a Bill of Rights to the Constitution. The book then gives a short synopsis of each of the first Ten Amendments, along with the historical background that led to the need for each amendment. This book is devoid of political opinion and simply states the facts.

Great book for parents trying to give their kids history and not someone else's agenda. No agenda here. The author tells it like it is point of fact and keeps the politics out as much as possible. The book has the Bill of rights written out as they are written. They are not paraphrased.

Well written and easy to understand. Can be used for young students as well as older students with learning disabilities. Teachers, this is also a great way for you to brush-up on your American History in a fun and enjoyable way! Worth reading.

Accessible and thorough, this book did the trick for our curious 7 year old. It's a fun way to learn about the rules that govern our country and offers some interesting food for thought as to how a country is created and how, over time, additions and clarifications to those rules are an essential part of the process.
