I would recommend this series for elementary or middle schools and public libraries. Each page includes informative, easy to understand text with helpful explanations of more complicated concepts. Specific events, places or people are highlighted in detail boxes. Stunning color photo spreads peak reader interest. Topics covered include archaeological, forensic and preservation techniques, pyramid building, tomb design, heiroglyphs and what they mean, the discovery of Tutankhamun, and the future of archaeology using computer technology. A glossary, a full-color timeline and a detailed index make this book an excellent reference book for young readers.
I ordered this as part of a curriculum for homeschool that we are going through with my daughter, and though it offered nice enough facts and was useful, I can think of several others that I find have perhaps even more facts presented in a more fun manner. As it was, I found this book a bit scarce and am not sure what inspired the curriculum designers to choose this over others. It's fine and the illustrations are sufficient. It's just not my favorite.
