This thorough, FUN history of the White House is a must-have for kids and adults. House has done an amazing job of collecting interesting facts, stories, photographs, and activities to help kids understand not only the history of the White House, but what our president's job entails and what it would be like living there if you are a kid in the First Family. A beautifully designed book and a pleasure to read.

I've got several of these books and this one does not disappoint. It starts with a timeline of some of the most important events in the history of the White House like when running water was added and when current East Wing office building was added.Chapter one highlights the building of the White House starting with George Washington's help in designing it. It takes us through its destruction during the War of 1812, the building of the Oval Office and the present day layout with pictures.Chapter two focuses on the children that grew up in the White House. There are some cute stories about the mischief that the children got into.Chapter three focuses on the "toughest job in the world", that of President.Chapter four talks about working in the White House including the First Ladies and the busy butlers.Entertaining at the White House, chapter five, has many entertaining stories.Traditional holiday celebrations are discussed in chapter six.You will learn more about the home life of the President and his family in chapter seven. As with all of the books in the series, it includes many activities (21 to be exact) that you can use with students. There is also a list of resources in the back of the book with include websites, museums and books. This is a definite "must have" book for anyone that teaches about the Presidents.

An excellent selection of black and white photos plus interesting information about the White House and the First Families who called it home make this book a captivating read. There are also 21 activities for children so this becomes a "hands-on" experience too. Having fun playing a game of Hoover ball, whip up a bowl of White House fruit punch or plant a tabletop herb garden like the one Michelle Obama has encouraged children to create. This would be a good book to read before a visit to Washington, D.C. or if you are home schooling your child. Elementary teachers will also find it a useful resource.Book provided by publisher.

The title might say "for Kids," but the content & pictures can be enjoyed by all ages! This book contains everything you might have wondered about the White House & more. It makes a great gift.
