I bought this for my son to work ahead in. There is a formula sheet at the beginning of the book, and several pages for each unit, including review sheets for each unit. My son is able to work on new problems with little difficulty.
Note: this is 5th grade level math. My 4th graders could do some of it but much of the material they have not yet covered in 4th grade. Otherwise the problems are good practice. There are answers in the back but they are pretty brief.
Excellent book if your school is using the Singapore math program. It's great even if you're not but, you need to understand it, in order to understand and teach it to your child. Would also recommend this for home schooler children/parents. Great way to learn match in a very simplistic way.
Didn't get 4 stars because it did not specify it is not for the US but for the Standards (?) version. It follows along relatively well with the lessons, but not exactly with the US version. You can figure it out but it's not as forthright. Glad to have the extra practice when needed, and it does a nice job of giving examples and explaining the rationale. So we are happy enough with it that we bought the other levels for other children.
The Singapore math serial definitely helps my kids to practice the math skills. It mixed with drill and problem solving questions. Some of questions are easy while some are challenging. I will definitely recommend them.
My boys do a page front and back each day as a prep for the state starr exam. I reveiw the missed ones with them and after about a month of constant use, I see a much better improvement. Highly useful!!
I am blessed to have a granddaughter who loves math and wanted a challenge. While just in 4 th grade, she wanted to push herself. This cured her boredom in Math class,,and earned her kudos from her teacher!
Great book to build math skills for a fourth grader. But a little below the level for a fifth grader.
