Bored with the exercised of religious ritualism and parched by the teachings of dry dogma, man searches for a way back home to the place of His presence. Unfortunately, this journey inward is a "road less traveled," and too few have found the way. 100 Days in the Secret Place Gene Edwards, the master storyteller, has gathered together the writings of three Christian mystics from the seventeenth century: Michael Molinos, Madam Guyon, and Francois Fenelon. The writings of these "masters of the spiritual way" will be as lampposts leading the weary traveler towards that secret place lovingly created by the Father. This book is a collection of writings from the Roman Catholics Francois Fenelon, Michael Molinos, and Madame Guyon. It's good, deep stuff dealing on the topics of the cross and prayer. The writings are not broken into a "daily devotional" format as the title may lead one to believe, but the book can be read in such a way since it is broken down into "small bits."The book has three sections: Way of the Cross, Drawing Inward, and Stepping Into His Presence. Within each section, each "author" is given about ten small chapters (usually no more than a couple pages). Most of Guyon's writings come from the SeedSower's book edited by Edwards called, Experiencing The Depths of Jesus Chrsit Through Prayer, so buying this book will offer nothing new from Guyon if you already have the other book. I'm guessing that the writings from Molinos comes from his, The Spiritual Guide. There is very little scripture in this book, but what is taught is very, very good (of course, not everyone may agree with what is written). The chapters deal with the cross, suffering, real prayer, inward prayer, silence, meditation on scripture, listening to God, knowing God, love, and beholding the Lord, among others. The book also includes short biographies of the three authors.

If you are a true seeker of the Lord this book is what you need to add to your library. It keeps me inspired and gives me a longing to know the Lord in a more intimate relationship then I have ever known Him. Don't let this book pass you by.

This book with the classic writers seems to fit right into the way of thinking that the Lord is opening up in my understanding by His Spirit about what it means to "live in the Kingdom." The basis foundation of abiding in Christ goes solidly through these writings and so consistent with what I am rereading of Andrew Murray as I grow in understanding what Kingdom Living means, and how it affects EVERY area of our lives as we learn who we are in Christ Jesus and who He is in us, even as He is in the Father and the Father is in Him, therefore He is in us.

Without playing into any of the normal 'spiritually inspiring' techniques, this book gives a clear description of daily dying to self and continuously choosing joy for the glory of God in hard circumstances. It is practical and simply convicting.

Gene Edwards features selections on experiencing the deeper Christian life from three highly respected classical writers of the 1600s: Francois de Fenelon a godly French Archbishop in the Catholic Church, Michael Molines, Spanish born, influential throughout Europe through his “Spiritual Guide,” and Jeanne Guyon, the most read woman in Christian history. All three authors help the reader better understand elements important in a personal quest for embracing the cross, walking in God’s presence, and drawing into the inner chamber of fellowship with Him.I especially liked Fenelon’s practical instructions in the devotional “Cultivating Silence.” Moline’s understands the reality of man’s nature. This comes through in the thoughts expressed in his writing on “Three Kinds of Silence.” In the final section “Stepping into His Presence” Guyon talks about how Godliness flows from within and of living in the abundance the spirit. The rich look and texture of the quality binding, add a touch of worship and reverence giving a sense of anticipation of the spiritual experience ahead for the reader. “100 Days in the Secret Place” is an important addition to every Christian’s classic devotional library and as an ideal gift for every occasion. Highly motivational, practical instruction, and spiritual insight,A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review purposes. The opinions expressed are my own. Reading “100 Days in the Secret Place” is an exciting spiritual quest.

It is rare that we find a book that is life changing, but this is the one for me. Just think, these three authors wrote this nearly four hundred years ago. It is not a book to be read quickly, but to savor slowly. What depth !!! I bought four copies from .com to give away and plan to get more.

There is nothing quite so comforting or affirming as having a little 'go to' book to augment one's own journey points. This is a compilation of thoughts put forth over hundreds of years that always seem to be so 'now' and so personal and useful in today's world. Great thought and obedient hearts are as current as our next breath.

This little book is an amazing compilation of thoughts from people who truly knew God. It speaks to the places where we walk in our daily lives with a depth that flowed out of much suffering and contemplation. I love it!
