Spirit is a dog who is afraid of everything - even the yappy little poodle next door. We have no idea WHY he is such a big chicken, but at least he has found a family to love him despite this "handicap".The family goes on a trip, and Spirit becomes frightened. He is so terrified that he breaks free of his leash / collar and runs for his life. His family was right behind him at first, but he can't understand where they are when he out runs them. Clearly he has to find them.Thus we have the story: a much shorter version of Homeward Bound. Follow Spirit as he races through the snow and wilderness searching for his family. All he knows is that he has to go home (which is south).It seemed a little unbelievable to me that such a fraidy cat could make it through some of the close calls Spirit faced. However, this is a story, and who wants to read an Angel Paws story where the furry friend is not going to overcome hard times? Besides, fear and adrenaline can sometimes propel us to accomplish the seemingly impossible.The question is whether or not Spirit will overcome ALL the difficulties he faces so that he will make it home to his family. It's a scary world out there, and poor Spirit is afraid of things even when he is safe in his own home. How on Earth will he manage to face his fears and all the strange things yet unknown to him when he cannot face a little poodle next door?Some people absolutely do not believe a pet can travel across unknown geography and face unfamiliar dangers to reach home. Sure, Homeward Bound was a good movie for the family, but come on. This couldn't happen in real life!Well, actually it can. I have seen it for myself.
