Father Tim and Cynthia are back from Ireland and ready to take on their quiet retirement. Ha! Mitford and it's cast of quirky, but lovable townspeople have other ideas. The new priest, Father Talbot, fights inner demons that lead to his own demise. Of course Father Tim is called to be his replacement till Father Bob from Colorado can come in. Will Father Tim take on this challenge? Will he give up "retirement" to honor this request?Sammy, Dooley's youngest brother is angry and sharing that anger with all that cross his path. That he lives next door in Father's Tim's home in the basement with his brothers, puts a conundrum at Father's Tim next door step. Helene, who rents out the basement, is calling for Sammy's dismissal and runs to Father Tim to come up with a solution for her dilemma.Hope, from "Happy Endings Bookstore" is happily pregnant, but this blessed event confines her to bed with no one to run her shop. Who, if anyone, will step in and keep it running?J.C, the editor of Mitford's "The Muse" has hired a new reporter who asks, "Does Mitford Still Takes Care of It's Own?" This becomes a heated debate among the townsfolk.Jan Karon offers other problems, but also joys as she writes in her famous heart-rending prose. I laughed, I cried, and I LOATHED coming to the end of this larger than normal tome. I could have read 500 more pages and still never been bored. She writes with such grace, such understanding of characters, bringing them alive so that you swear you know these people. Mitford is your town as are the occupants. I own this whole series and pray that I may re-read them all someday.....for now I will say that "Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good" will be my favorite tied with "Shepherds Abiding?
