Just thinking about consulting interviews made me anxious. I don't have a traditional business education and was intimidated by case interviews. I checked out other consulting prep books, but found them overwhelming and difficult to digest. 20 Days to Ace the Case provided me with practical tools and a clear plan of action for the days leading up to the interview. Following the steps in the book, I walked into my consulting interviews prepared and walked out with an internship at McKinsey & Company!
As someone who has taught Building your IT career in colleges, I find this book to be a helpful tool in that arena. I liked the book, however there were some drawbacks to it. I felt it was too isolated to one career choice and with some minor modifications could have been broadened to cover a wider arena of career choices making this book marketable to a larger audience. Secondly, the book seemed to be focused on interviews. What about what tools you bring such as your resume, what should that look like? What about body language and technique? On the brighter side had extremely useful information which would help a lot of people. Because it was more tailored to management consulting only – I gave it four out of 5 stars.I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
This is an excellent book for people who know that they have to face a case interview, as I'm looking for a new job and prepare myself to interviews this book tech me some practice in learning about mock interview techniques. I think this is an excellent read! It is a book full of great advice! I like the cases presented. This book seems to be a well-researched book, with lots of real life examples. I wasn't familiar with a case interview prior to reading this book, but now I feel like I'm better prepared for one if needed. Beyond the case interview, I think this book gives some good building blocks on how to solve problems (after all that's what consulting is, right?). I've seen and used many of these frameworks professionally without knowing them, specifically the internal/external framework. I've picked up a few more that I think will be useful as well. This is a good, no holds barred manual for anyone looking for a job in management consulting. The book discusses the pros and cons of a job in consulting and takes the reader through a systematic process for an interview. The process is broken down into days and there are examples of real-life events. The mock interviews are very useful and easy to follow. I will preface this by saying that I am not particularly interested in a career in consulting, however this book provides helpful tips and interview techniques that would be useful to almost any job applicant. There are also several mock interviews which were very informative and provided unique insight into the interview process. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to any prospective employees looking for ways to improve their interview performance. This book provides a nice set of tools to help prepare you for the case interview to get you into your dream profession. The books dives into the pros and cons of the consulting industry and does put most of the focus consulting jobs. The information given though is great for most any case interview. This is broken down to basically three weeks before the interview and gives you tips plus and most importantly mock interviews to help you really get your feet wet. There are a total of 9 mock interviews to help you out. I really also found the My Interview Story sections helpful.
