Humble Consulting the author has adapted his research from his other book Helping and Humble Inquiry and made adaptive moves to refine the work with real life examples and the lessons learned. This book is a great resource for helping to develop an organizational culture that thrives in an atmosphere of mutual trust and teamwork. The techniques are based on the spirit of inquiry and dialog that actual designs better ways of working cohesively. In short I love this book and Edgar Schein's other books as well.
While not being particularly enamoured with the title "Humble Consulting" Ed Schein's insightfulness, wealth of experience and genuine caring shines through (excuse the pun) in this book. Being an experienced consultant who has been working in the ways outlined in this book for a number of years the concepts were not new to me. But the stories/examples Ed provides caused me to reflect more deeply on my experiences and how I would have dealt with the situations Ed presented - a most beneficial exercise. Thank you. Its a great read for people looking to move beyond the traditional consulting/sales model and work in a different way with clients. I find this way of working with clients simpler, more effective, more energising, more ethical and more authentic. I feel that Ed, consistent with the theme of the book, has given a lot of himself in this book and was not afraid to show vulnerability - he admits that there are times he simply did not know and that is OK. I will be re-reading this book, particularly the case studies/examples.I preferred this book to "Humble Inquiry".
I enjoyed the read. As someone learning about consulting, I found it educational and validating since some things mirror my clinical work!
