I was hooked on season one of Powder River when I first heard it on XM radio a couple of years back. Season one is good, but season two is when everything magically comes together. All the characters and the writing began to click, and in my opinion season two is when Powder River became the XM radio classic that it is. If you love westerns like Gun Smoke and the Rifleman, you will appreciate this modern classic.
I bought these because Sirius/XM got ride of the Book Radio channel where I listened to them faithfully for years. I will eventually get the complete set.
Purchased Powder River as a Christmas gift for my dad who drives a big truck. He loves listening to this series while he is on the road for several days. Dad approved :)
I received season 1 of Powder river as a premium for donating to Great Detectives of Old Time Radio. Season one hooked me so I purchased subsequent seasons.
This has been a fun series to catch up on. At times it is just like Gunsmoke and at other times its like some kids style western such as the Lone Ranger or Hop-A-Long Cassidy. There is adventure and excitement no matter which way the writers have gone. My kids and I love to listen to this on the road trips. Part of an ongoing series of adventures of an old retired US Marshall who is trying to ranch up in then Wyoming territory just after the Civil War and near the tail end of the Indian wars and right near the turn of the 20th century. There is a whole slew of interesting characters. From a doctor who is also a quick draw gunman, to an old railroad depot attendant who is still fighting the civil war and there are various women from the ladies running the general store and hotel combo to some of the ones traveling through the area who end up meeting the marshal and becoming potential love interests. A great series and wonderful to know that there are still folks trying to do the modern version of the old radio series of the 30s and 40s.
