It sounds good and is a decent price. My main issue and why I did not give this 5 stars is that I wish it came with liner notes listing the order of poets with the title of their poems. This is listed on the face of the CD; however, while the CD is playing, you cannot see the information! Also, the author's name does not display in the media application when you play this on your computer. For example, I was using MS Media Player. The title of the poem displays, but not the author. I want to know as I am listening so I don't have to go to Google and look up titles and authors.
Nice to hear these famous poets read their own poetry, especially to hear their intonationsI only wish they had better quality recording machinesI still give it 5 stars
Most of the recordings are very interesting and of major poems by major poets. However, a few were, of course, so old, before modern recording technology was improved, that their voices were difficult to understand and thus the poems challenging to follow without the printed text before one.
Can't recommend this unless you have a favorite. Yeats and Thomas are good but then the collection becomes very uneven and almost random. Hard to tell who is reciting what... and why. It does make the few good poets stand out against the background of painful poets.Suggest you buy instead a collection of Yeats and/or John Lithgow's excellent introduction to popular poetry.
A great thank you to for listing the poets here so you know who is reading and name of poem. My used CD came with no liner notes, no names or titles. It seems like the publisher didn't want to be bothered. I guess poetry to them is an afterthought. They deserve one star. Great poems though. While I appreciate novelty of having the poems read by their authors the fact is some of their readings are pretty bad. You can be a great writer of poetry but a poor reader of your poems. And most of these poets don't have the rich, expressive voices professional readers have. Still worthwhile and cheap.
