When you buy this item you are getting 22 stories from the century of the advent of the modern short story. Most of the stories are British although four American stories and two French stories are included because no collection from that period would be complete without them. We can always slip right back into the flow on TV. That's not the case with real short fiction. If one doesn't pay attention, one doesn't know the story. Most English speakers should have encountered half of these stories by the time they have gotten through secondary school. However, Saki (H.H.
