Driving alot, I enjoy listening to the L'Amour stories of the old west while I drive. Much better than the talk shows and trying to get music I like. L'Amour is a great writer, and the stories, especially the short stories, are very well written and easy to get into while driving. Many of the tecno-thrillers are too complicated to listen to, but there are very few of his westerns that I have not enjoyed while driving. This is a nice collection of Louis L'Amour stories read by Jonny Cash and other great personalities.
I listen to quite a few audio books while traveling, but needed something to share with my Dad on a recent road trip. Since he is an avid viewer of cowboy movies, I hoped we could both enjoy this collection.I'll have to say that we did enjoy it. For me, having a number of performers and sound effects was a bit disconcerting at first. I'm used to listening to a book with a single performer. But once I got used to the format, I'll have to say that it added to the experience. And of course, how can you not like listening to the timbre of voices like Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash!So if you're a cowboy fan, and you must be if you're looking at Louis L'Amour books, I think you'll enjoy this collection.
This is a great addition to one's audio book western's collection. Though the stories are abridged and dramatized, they are well done. One CD features Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson in 'Riding for the Brand'. The rest of the collection has Willie narrating the stories and other voice actors doing the character voices. Like all good stories, they are too short... L'amour's tales are always great. If you like a good western, you can't go wrong with this collection. Saddle up!
I was surprised when I ran across this "Louis L'Amour Collection" I am not only a fan of Mr. L'Amour, but I am a life long fan of Willie and Waylon.-Not to mention Johnny Cash, who's song "Folsom Prison Blues" was the first song I learned to sing when I was a kid. What a great set of CD's, Comes in a nice wooden box, 4 CD's, Great western stories. Listen to them when I fly to Europe. The people they got to read them to you are nothing less than great readers, you understand every single word..
We purchase these stories on CDs to use in the car while on trips. They really make the miles go by faster. The short stories are used on shorter trips while the full-length books are used for the longer road trips.
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my aging father. He loves the stories and it's easy for him to operate as he suffers from dementia. When I ordered, I was told it would not arrive until after Christmas but it had plenty of time to ship to NM and allow me to wrap and then ship to AR in time for Christmas morning. was great at sending out notices that it had shipped sooner.
