The 10th edition of this book is actually much better than the 11th (I bought both for my I/O PSY class). Chapters 9-13 are particularly insightful. I sold my 11th edition but will be keeping the 10th. The 10th edition is also the last edition written solely by Muchinsky, before his death last year. Sadly, the 11th edition deletes a lot of Muchinsky's personal insights. His insights about teams and teamwork from Chapter 9, in particular, can easily be applied to other "teams," such as families. A great book for any psychologist, not just I/O psychologists.
Instead of paying a million dollars to buy this book from the college to help complete her master's degree in workplace psychology (or something to that nature) I decided to rent this book out from for my precious wife-to-be. Her boss read some of it and totally "geeked out" over it. I'd venture to say that it's a great book at a great price. She is thinking of actually keeping it, and since she'll probably be paying most of our bills someday, I might just give in! I have yet to read any of it but she has given it some rave reviews. If HR is your thing, pull up a seat by the fireside and check it out :)
The information is useful but the style of writing is very very very dry. The text is dry in the sense that there are numerous instances where he could have used simpler ways to describe a concept but instead he opted for more bigger words and repetition. The colored bubbles with case info. are more helpful as they provide an insight into real life application. I had to read it for a class but every time I open the book to study I just felt dreaded.Also, the book is printed on glossy paper and it's really difficult to read the text with all the shiny reflections.
Well organized, easy to follow, and the chapters aren't padded with unnecessary length. Easier to read than some other psych texts and very relatable.
I thought I was buying a new book. The one that arrived had stickers on it like it had been in a library. Not only that, but the binding was broken.The text itself is good, but the condition of the book itself falls greatly short of the mark. I feel like I have been fleeced.
Boring book that just has a bunch of words written.
This was not an easy read.
Ended up returning this after I switched classes, but it seemed pretty decent.
