I purchase one of these every year, and it always comes with an Address Book Insert ( That fits neatly in the made-for-it pocket on the inside back cover ). It is a handy and expected addition that is included in the purchase price. This year (2017) it was replaced by a page of 1/4 inch stick on letters and numbers, which are useless and make no sense ( Other than an attempt to placate expectant customers ). While Moleskin's profit margin went up, my expectations went down. I wonder what they will remove next. It may be time to consider products from other companies.
I have been purchasing this model of planner for several years, this planner (2017) has made some changes to what I have received in past years, and I do not think it has been an improvement. First, as noted by another reviewer, the 2017 model does not include the "Address Book" that fits in the back cover as all other years included. For me, this was not too bad since I have several that I can move over from previous years (I write in pencil so can update). Second, they removed the "Holidays and Events" pages (use to be included between the monthly calendar section and the time zone map pages) where you can write in all your birthdays, anniversaries etc. I liked these pages for making sure I knew what cards I needed to get during the month, but 2017 does not have them. Third, 2017 adds country abbreviations to list each country that celebrates certain public holidays. These completely unnecessary lists of countries take up large amounts of valuable writing space in the weekly calendar sections (see photo for example). And lastly, I don't know what they did differently in the production of this planner, but I have ordered well over 20 Moleskine planners and notebooks and never have I received one that has the very strong chemical smell that this 2017 planner has, it is terrible. I have propped it up on a desk with the pages opened a bit to try to air it out, I have also spent time fanning the pages, but after a week, the smell is still there and dissipating very slowly. Hopefully by the time 2017 rolls around the smell will be gone. I love Moleskine products, I love the format of these horizontal planners, but please Moleskine, go back to your tried and true formula for this model, it was great. The 2017 edition is only good, 3 stars.
It appears Moleskine decided to go with thinner pages than they did in 2016. It's not horribly thinner, and it does make the planner thinner (which could be a pro), but ink does show through on the other side a little more. I use fountain pen, so it might not be as bad with a ballpoint, but I thought I'd mention it.Also, as another reviewer noted, the address book has been removed.
