I love the Amelia Peabody series. Amelia is an indomitable heroine. She is highly opinionated, super-confident, fearless, loyal, reckless, not particularly self-aware, and convinced that she is right almost all of the time, which she often is. Her moral position is steadfast and her devotion to her husband, the greatest archeologist of this or any age, is unwavering. We see their marriage develop and feel a part of this amazingly entertaining family. As her son grows, the romance and adventures increase. There is love, intrigue, mystery, history, and a sense of being a part of this marvelous family as they move through the late 1800's and early twentieth century touching upon trends and issues of the times. Each book stands alone, but reading or listening to them in order adds to the enjoyment. Barabara Rosenblatt is the best reader. She brings each character to life with appropriate accents with bits of Arabic and German, as well. Listening to her is a treat! I have been trying to acquire all of the books on CD and have almost succeeded.
Love this series of books, and especially the reader Barbra Rosenblat. I wish they would republish them with her as the reader so I could get the whole series new. Ms Rosenblat and Ms Davina Porter are the best audio readers I have found. I want more!
I have been listening to these audiobooks for years. Barbara Rosenblat is an awesome performer. She does distinct voices for the characters and keeps them consistent from book to book. She breathes life into an already wonderfully entertaining set of well done mysteries. Elizabeth Peters is a talented story teller. Her books kept me anxiously waiting for the next installment. Each book builds on the storyline of the previous works. If you love a good mystery you are going to love Amelia Peabody Emerson. I also recommend her books featuring Vicki Bliss.
