Very basic. I found it almost juvenile but it is exactly what it states. I was also pleasantly surprised at its objectivity, As an instructor of American Government, I'm appalled at the level of liberalism and opinion in textbooks. This was not at all.
I like this book except it's missing one glaring detail. America is a republic, and this book portrays it as a democracy. The word republic is not included in the glossary or the index. On page 12, "A system of government in which people make decisions by voting is called a democracy.", should instead say, "A process by which people make decisions by voting is called democracy." This book outlines the roles of our Constituition, and the three branches of our government, which is the very reason we are a republic and not a democracy. Having democracy, and being a democracy are two different things. If this book made that correction I would love it, but this is simply wrong.
Great information, written for students at their reading level.
this is a great book to have. my husband who is now an american citizen found this easy to understand and our first grader too. great minds do think alike :)
The book is written for young people. I think that it is a decent primer for understanding the three branches, and how members are elected or appointed. While not very deep, it is appropriate for the age group and covers the bases.
