Too bad the Spanish translation. I had to correct them with a pen. The story is great. It is about a hen that worked and did everything to make some bread. She asked her friends (cow, dog, pig) to help her several times, but they never did. When she was about to eat the bread, they wanted to help her eating, but she ends up eating it herself.
I loved this story when I was young, bought it for my 3 year old. He loves it, however, we read it in Spanish and as a native speaker I can say some the translation is off. So if you are looking to use it in English its great. In Spanish its only 95% of the way there so I can't give it 5 stars.
My daughter (4) likes to change this story around so that the other animals actually DO help the little red hen grow the wheat and make the bread etc... and then they all eat it together. I am grateful that the original story inspired her to feel that sharing the whole experience would be nicer.
Since I have students who are Spanish dominant and who are learning English, this book is a great book with for reading comprehension, understanding key vocabulary, and for reading for enjoyment.
It is a classic children's story...Perfect for the bilingual child with one mono lingual parent. Our child loves it in both languages! The price is great too...especially for two books in one.
I am pleased with my purchase of this book, that will be a gift to a young Spanish speaking child. The story is written in both Spanish and English on each page. Nicely illustrated.
This is a great classic story to read at bedtime. I love that it is in English and Spanish so we read both versions. I have all the books in this series.
Bilingual books with a good story line are hard to come by. This was one that kept my daughters attention and she enjoys reading over and over.
