Daddies (Little Golden Book)
ebooks Download

In a charming rhyme, this 1953 Little Golden Books asks, "What do daddies do all day? Daddies work while children play." It shows daddies working in all kinds of careers, from farming to teaching to even singing in the opera! And it assures children that at the end of the workday, "by taxi, train, by car and bus, Daddy rushes home—to us!"  Illustrated by Tibor Gergely, who brought the beloved Little Golden Book characters Scuffy the Tugboat and Tootle to life.

Daddies is a treasure! I just delightfully discovered Daddies and I feel like I found hidden gold. I love everything about it! I love the Tibor Gergely illustrations. The just right illustrations and the subject matter are universal and timeless. Daddies simply reflects what all children need, want and deserve. A good daddy. A good family. So many children's books today are just plain awful. Both in content and context. Inappropriate, often victimizing topics. Hideous illustrations in repellent colors. Not anything I would buy or give to my grandchildren. Daddies is so sorely needed in a troubled world that devalues daddies. Indeed, children are forced to live in a world that devalues daddies, mothering and families while making children objects of consumerism. Daddies sweetly and accurately depicts what all children crave -- a strong and sweet daddy who provides for them and protects them. The last illustration says it all. A family, a mother and father and children, gathered around the table in safety, stability, security. Gathered in love. And like Norman Rockwell said, if it isn't that way then it should be. Daddies provides a model so that we as caring and responsible adults can make the choice to be that way, too. A most satisfying and favorite read for children and their adults, alike.I search for good books that make my grandchildren feel good and that teach them how to live. Informative, insightful, inspiring. Daddies is a highly recommended classic that does all this!Keep up the good work, Golden Books! And, if you at Random House are reading this review, I would love to see Golden Books reissue anything by illustrator, the incomparable Eloise Wilkins, especially, We Help Mommy and We Help Daddy. Both are priceless.Enjoy! And thank you!

I bought this one for my grandson because it had been read to me when I was a child. Modern parents might a an issue with it because it portrays Daddy as the bread winner. (Life was simpler 60 years ago when I was pre-school.)

My whole family loves this book! The short, rhyming text and bright pictures really appeal to my 11-month-old. She wants to read it over and over, and it makes sense to her since my husband leaves for work every morning. Yes, it was written in the 1950s and it's exclusively about working daddies, but there are other books about mommies if that's what you're looking for. Golden Books like these aren't making a political statement; they are explaining the jobs that people do in a straightforward way that makes sense to toddlers. Appreciate it for the simplicity and vintage charm!

Nothing like the good old days! This great classic gives kids a look at some of the many occupations (of course excluding modern technology since it was written decades ago) of daddies with lots of exciting pictures to go with it. The best part is the end, daddy coming home to his kids! It even shows the family sitting around a table eating dinner together, which is beginning to be a growing trend once again by those in our society who value the importance of family. Love the Golden Book Classics!

I remember this Golden Book from my childhood. I Recently purchased it as a stocking stuffer for my brother who became a new father shortly before Christmas. A timeless little book that will make memories between father and son. An excellent gift for any dad, sentimental gift for Father's Day, Birthday, Holiday and new dads.

Good little book for young children. There is only one sentence per page which should encourage the adult to enlarge on the subject in the picture. I love these simple books with good illustrations and lots of activity on each page. Really pleased with it and so is my grandson.

This is clearly a very old book. I liked that idea, so bought it. The content is basically showing all the jobs daddies go out and do all day, then they come home at night, There is no real story. This book is ok for someone where daddy is always gone. It can help explain that even though you never see him, he loves you. It is actually appropriate for our family, but I think we have only read it once.

My son and daughter (who are 2 and 4 years old) love this book. They seem to gravitate to all the Little Golden Books we have. It's one that I don't mind reading over and over again. The pictures have an old fashioned look to them, but I like them, especially the one at the end showing them all eating dinner together. As others have noted, there aren't really any women in the book, but it is about Daddies, and applies well to our family situation. The main point is that daddy loves them even though he is away at work all day, so it might not be the best choice for stay-at-home Dads. Made a great Father's Day present for us.
