This book is intended for younger children. I read it with my kinders, and it was long enough to learn from but not to long that the lost interest. Though is talks a little about the day to day of being a police officer, it also brings in the different types of police officers... ones who rides motorcycles, bicycles, boats, etc. The kids found it interesting for they had never considered that police officers are in those place.
This book shows different police officers and what different kinds of jobs they do. It has all real pictures and is part of a series of "I want to be" books. My daycare has loved and responded well to all of the books in this series...a great addition to any early childhood setting.
The main focus of this book is photos and descriptions of the different modes of transportation police officers can use - cars, boats, walking, motorcycles, horses, ultralight airplanes, etc and the tools they use - dogs, computers, fingerprints. I wished it was a little longer for my 5 year old with more descriptions of what a police officer does but he really likes this book and asks to read it often.
When I looked at my older version of this book it was time to update. This book is very current. I added it to a nonfiction book basket in my preschool classroom.
My 5 year old son is into the police. This book is a simple read and easy for him to understand. My son has chosen this as a bedtime story a few times, showing that he likes and enjoys the story.
This was a great themed gift, with officer rubber duckys and a police baby clothes for an officer's new little addition. It's an easy read, maybe kinder or 1st grade level
My son LOVES police officers and so this book was a real winner last Christmas. He still asks to read it even though he's graduated to longer stories now.
My 3 year old absolutely loved this book. It gives lots of concrete examples of things that police officers do. He asks for it regularly.
