I've read this book for my grad school class. It's good with the basic concepts of learning theories, and how adults are different then children. It will become outdated though as the millennial get older since it limits reliability on technology.
Great educational text. This is more textbook, but great for students or those who need to prepare inservice or staff training. Allows you to view adult learning from many theoretical lens which enhancing their acquisition of knowledge, since after reading this you can apply it.
I am currently using this book for grad school in my Adult Learning class. I think the book is incredibly sexist and comes from a feminist's point of view. Every other example I read is talking about sexism here and sexism there. I am a female in the military who does stand up for equal treatment of all, regardless of your race, gender, sexual preference, etc. But this book is one sided in my opinion- the authors (ironically two females) need to find a broader range of examples to talk about and if they feel so strongly about feminism then they should find another avenue to address these issues.Also, the theories discussed in this book are not graduate level ideas. I could have read this book in high school and understood everything. Definitely not worth your time or money.
Excellent resource that provides a complete view of adult learning and how it links with practice . Great ideas for possible learning opportunities to enhance and deepen understandings of many perspectives to be considered when providing/anticipating lin adult learning.
Very straight forward writing. Covers a broad review of current issues and concerns in adult learning.
This book is boring drivel. I had to buy it for a graduate level class, which is surprising because the principles presented in this book are less than basic. In my opinion, it is more suitable for a freshman level class.
This is the second text by Merriam I have used. Her text is well written and understandable. I am using this book in an Master's level Adult Education course. I am sure I will reference this text in research.
Ms. Merriam has a strong grasp and expertise on the pulse of Adult Education at its core. Her clearly communicated explanations are easy to read and comprehend for adult students making the commitment to furthering their personal educational experience, and ultimately with growth and success in their professional careers.Well done Ms. Merriam and Ms. Bierema.
