This ebook was extremely short. I got it for my son, who is a first grader at a high reading level. To me, this book is marketed as a book about rocks and minerals for kids, but they use words that even some high schoolers would have to look up. Words like "galvanized," "malleable," "ductile," and "metamorphic" are some of the words they use and do not explain. I think if they are going to use those terms in a book marketed toward kids, then they need to explain what they mean. A first grader isn't going to know what "galvanized" means. They only talk about rocks and minerals that most kids have already been learning about: granite, limestone, gold, silver, diamonds, etc. There was nothing new or really that interesting to learn. They should have picked more lesser known, or lesser used/ common rocks and minerals to write about. It's not like there isn't a ton out there to choose from! Maybe it's because I'm an english teacher, but I think thew writing could have been much better and written at a level that more elementary aged kids could understand and enjoy.I received this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book “Rocks and Minerals of the World” belongs to a Children’s book series published by Speedy Publishing. We love Speedy Publishing Children’s book series as they usually come with excellent photos and basic references that are quite suitable for the underage, for those small family members at home, for those parents who love to teach their children at home and this type of books serve well for teaching purposes at school too. This book refers to rocks and minerals on which it is established that all rocks are made of two or more minerals, but minerals are not made of rock.Beautiful photographs and short references about the Granite (igneous rock), Limestone (sedimentary rock), Marble (metamorphic rock), Aluminum, Gold, Silver, Diamond and many more fun facts that are well depicted on this book with high definition photographs in full color. As this book has beautiful, full colored, high detailed, photographs/pictures you may want to share with your kids and/or students as they can serve as point for further discussions or a way to develop language skill by promoting the children to express themselves about what they see and understand by looking at the photograph or picture.Disclosure: I received this product on a promotional discount for my honest review and they are 100% my own opinions; of course, I do understand that your own opinion may differ from mine and I do respect that in any way. Nice book for kids. It has a lot of pictures and descriptions what that is. We enjoyed the book and I recommend. For centuries, stone has been used by nearly all civilizations. Each corner of the world and each layer of earth yields a multitude of stone varieties, and a uniqueness within each stone.Stone is a natural solid formation of one or many minerals. There are thousands of types of stone that have been quarried through the centuries. Quarries are located all around the world. A majority of natural stone comes from Italy, Spain, Turkey, United States, Mexico, China, Taiwan, India, Greece, Canada, France, and Brazil. The minerals in stone came from the same liquid and gas minerals that formed the earth. The Earth developed as a massive body of gas and liquid minerals that slowly cooled and condensed to a solid core. Through pressure, the Earth's crust began to form and heavy minerals were forced down to the core of the Earth where they were trapped. As the crust got thicker, it squeezed around the inner core which created intense pressure and heat from within the Earth. Crystals and other solid forms began to grow from the mineral vapors that were being released. As the Earth's crust began to expand and erode, heat and pressure pushed the solid minerals up to the Earth's surface which formed colossal rock beds. It took up to one-hundred million years to form some of these beds. Many of the beds are now used as quarries where the stone is mined.I received this item discounted in exchange for my testing, inspecting and reviewing it. I ordered this book because my daughter has always had an interest in rocks and minerals. The cover made me very excited to see what this book has to offer. I thought that I would be learning about pretty colored rocks and minerals pictured on the cover but there was not information on any of these beautiful rocks. The electronic version of this book is only 18 pages long. I wish it was longer and covered more rocks than what it did. It covered such things as limestone, granite, gold, silver, aluminum and diamonds. The pictures are what make this book worth getting. The are beautiful and detailed. The information provided is sound and easy for a child to understand. If you are looking for easy information for children to understand on a few basic types of rocks then this book is worth getting. If you are looking for information on the beautiful rocks shown on the cover you will be disappointed.I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
