I recommend this series for kids. My daughter has almost every one of the books in this series and she is always reading them, even when she should be sleeping! She loved these books and can't put them down. Great info, easy to read and understand.
I have bought this for my second grader number one to have material for her to read. Second to try to foster a interest in History. There are several books in this series on various historical events and figures. This one deals with not just the battle of the alamo but also the war for Texas independence from mexico. It deals with a lot of the underlying conflict that led to the revolution, and the people that shaped the whole texas independence struggle. My daughter has loved reading it and look forward to getting through other books in this series with her.
I read this with my 4 & 5 yr old. We all loved it (and I do not enjoy reading generally). It is an easy, quick read. We read a chapter each night (there are 9 chapters). We all looked forward to finding out what happened next. This is a great history lesson. It is honest about the situation without being overly graphic. I cried at the end. I would recommend this book and will likely buy others like it.
My 6 year old daughter visited the Alamo with her grandparents and came home asking ALOT of questions to which I didn't have answers....so we snagged this book!It was great, I actually learned a ton as an adult. There are risqué topics...many of Texas' founding fathers were alcoholics, slave owners, or had affairs on their wives. They didn't harp on these topics but the book did not shy away from the truth about each person. I LOVED that. I think its really great for my kiddo to learn now that no one is perfect, even if they are heroes.I immediately bought another book in this series. It has been rare that my girl has expressed interest in non-fictional reading and she is pretty excited to pick up another one. History for the win!!!!
My ten year olds enjoyed this book. As you would expect from the subject matter, there is a lot of death and violence though none of it is too graphic. Sensitive children might be disturbed by this though I guess many kids see far worse on tv and video games. This led to good conversations with my kids about why people can be so cruel to one another.
I bought this book for my 11 year old son who is taking a trip to Texas this summer with his grandparents and the Alamo will be one of the places that they will get to see. For my son the Alamo is a piece of family history, my family are descendants of Davey Crockett and this book explained what happened in a much simpler way than I could. I highly recommend this book for kids.
I enjoyed this book. It is written for youth and I wanted a quick read to get basic information preparing for a visit to the Alamo. This book is written with a lot of detail even though aimed for kids. There are inserts about specific character's lives that I really liked, as did my kids (13 & 16yrs). I have moved on to reading A Time to Stand to them now that their interest is piqued.
I liked it beacause it tells you what happened before , in the middle and at the end of the battle of the Alamo I like history a lot so I loved the book it's really a good book !!! P:s my favorite part was the battle scene.
