Those 16 of his finest speaches made during the darkest days of WWII demonstrated courage and inner strength of a great leader in modern world. I and my 11 year old have enjoyed it very much.
The CD provides an intro to each speech, setting the context both in the audience /location of the speech as well as the state of the world. Listening to Churchill's speeches and remembering he didn't know the end of the story was a good lesson in statesmanship and leadership.
This is a fantastic find for any history buffs who want to hear Mr. Churchill's words in the original format.
I was wanting a book or aubio book that gave speeches of Winston Churchill, instead I got this. It is only bits and pieces and small bits at that of his speeches. I would look for the whole speeches next time.
This is really fascinating. I found myself listening several times. There is a narration that puts each speech in context. I would really have liked a bit more in the narration as it's really just the bare minimum. The CD is just a sample. It's not a very complete picture of Sir Winston's oratory. There are some speeches that are not especially important or reveling and many very important speeches missing. The audio quality is generally not too good - but this is to be expected as these are live recording of speeches dating back as far as 1936. Overall, not withstanding that one would like it to be more complete, it's a very informative and enjoyable listen.
You can't beat Winny. There's absolutley no silly emotionalism on these recordings. Sir Winston lays it down just as is it. 'Never give up' "Fight, fight fight" Toil and trouble... western civilization. blood and guts. This is all fighting stuff made when the Brits were still truely British. Stiff upper lip, never say die and so on. Well, it's nice to play when you are driving home home drunk or listening at home sober with the family. There a lot of wisdom here and let us not forget that while Adolf was screaming death and wacko racism, and eating vegetarian food and not even enjoying good German beer, Winny was plastered up most of the time and tucking into meat pies and steaks. Fanaticism surley does come out in many different manifestations.
Excellent, Moving speeches by the greatest man of the 20th century!Only downside: the speech that included the words: "we'll fight on the beaches, we'll fight in the fields...we'll never surrender..." Is not on the CD.
It's actually Churchill speaking. Recordings are clear. You have to remind yourself he doesn't know the outcome of the war when he is saying these things. Chilling and thrilling.
