This is a GREAT book, but you have to know what you're getting. We first got this little cube book for our little girl around her first birthday, and kept it in regular cycle of reading to her. It was not long before she was repeating back to us the words simply based on the pictures, and even got to know which one was coming next. So, overall, it was great for word-picture association skills and learning new words in general. She enjoyed it so much that it wore out before her brother came along, and we're buying a new one to read with him.This is a great vocabulary building book, but it is not a story. Infants and toddlers will enjoy it and look at it often, but I would not expect a preschooler or older to pick it up and read it like they would a story book. I would have to say that the Reader Age rating of 4-8 years old may be accurate based on the complexity of the words, but I think kids those ages would not be interested except as perhaps a vocabulary flash-card approach. If that age is your target, consider the storybook "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", but not this "Favorite Words" edition.But for infants or toddlers, get this book!
I bought these for party favors for my daughter's first birthday. I thought they would be good for toddlers. Like other people have said, they are a strange book. They are about the size of a toy block, with just a few very thick pages. Not worth the price and not something a small child would enjoy. I ended up returning them.
This is a replacement for the same book I bought four years ago for my granddaughter. That is how much it is loved. The pictures are Eric Carle beautiful. It is the size of a children's block so it is so easy to carry. My one year old grandson makes a bee line for it on the coffee table every visit!
Super cute! It is SMALL. I didn't pay attention to the dimensions. I'd still buy it again though, I just was surprised when it came it. It's still very clear and large print to see the artwork and the text. Cute little book to keep in the car.
very very tiny on very thick cardboard. I would call it a board book,but it's so tiny and very thick that it's not your typical board book. Not worth the price, not easy for my 1-year-old to open/turn pages in, and not engaging enough for the 4-year-old pre-reader.
I didn't realize this was a tiny book. I was under the impression it was the full size regular version. Needless to say I planned to return it. Turns out my 3 year old loves the size of this book. This is handheld for a toddler.
I really like these little books. My one year old daughter can easily carry it around and manipulate the pages. The size is unique and I think that's why my daughter likes it so much. The set would make a wonderful gift for a baby or toddler and they're often priced at less than 3 bucks each on . I'm not sure why they get bad reviews.
This book is approximately cube shaped and each page has a word with the accompanying Eric Carle illustration on the opposite page. It's certainly not a story, but I like reading it to my 3 month old--perfect for her short attention span. I also like the thick pages and small size because I think she will be able to manipulate them easily as she gains better motor control. This is a nice size for a stocking stuffer too.
