Keith Baker displays his trademark flair for color, movement, and rhythm in this vibrant adaptation of the familiar nursery rhyme "Hickory Dickory Dock." A companion to his acclaimed Big Fat Hen, this twist on an old favorite features some serious antics on the part of a busy little mouse. As a huge grandfather clock strikes each hour from one o' clock in the afternoon to midnight, a different animal passes by, and the mouse has a funny interaction with each of them.     With counting, telling time, and a cozy bedtime ending to engage them, children will be chiming in for repeated readings.

This book is an extension of the rhyme "Hickory Dickory Dock" with a verse for each number, and even the first verse is changed from the original. A sample:"Hickory dickory dock, a bird sang to the clock. The clock struck two...away she flew! Hickory dickory dock."Each verse is essentially the same. In every illustration, the clock stands in the same spot, maybe with something new on its ledge, and with different animals and occurrences in the background. But, the clock is in the exact same spot, which makes the illustrations seem very static and flat despite everything else changing. It could be argued that the story and illustrations will help a child learn to read the time by the hands of a clock, but by the time, they can pick up such things, this book would probably be below their interests. The book was just too repetitive on the whole for my tastes. I didn't enjoy reading it. And, there's no reason an adult can't enjoy reading a good children's book, like All Things Bright and Beautiful or How Many Trucks Can a Tow Truck Tow? (Pictureback(R)) or I Will Rejoice: Celebrating Psalm 118 or
