My 2 year-old loves this book! He's been watching Ni Hao, Kai Lan and was really excited to expand his Mandarin vocabulary. He has about 10 words now and is using them interchangeably with English; it's been wonderful to see his functional language expand!My only complaint is that you really do need to know how to read Pinyin to get anything out of this book, but since Pinyin is really not too difficult, it's worth it if you want to introduce your child to Mandarin.
The pictures are very cute and the words are in English, pinyin, a "sound out" version of pin yin, and the Chinese character, simplified. My sons, aged 3 and 1 love to look through it everyday. I like it so much I plan to give it to friends and family with kids who are interested in learning Mandarin.
I purchased this book to help my son learn Mandarin. It's definitely a great book if you already speak Mandarin and want to teach it to your children. It may be a little difficult if you don't speak Mandarin.My son enjoys the pictures in it as well.
These books are great for children learning Chinese. I only know basic Chinese and am able to read the pinyin. I can't read characters, but the pinyin helps a lot if you can read tones and pinyin. My kids, ages 2 and 4, loves this book. They are starting to pick up the words in these books and apply it to everyday life. This makes me really happy that they are able to learn some chinese.
This is a great series. There are surprisingly few books that offer a text in English, Pinyin, and characters. I suspect that there are a lot of parents who have trouble turning characters into Mandarin Chinese. This book fits the bill, and my favorite kid loves Gordon and Li Li.
Really liked these books--all great illustrations, colorful, and fun. Very helpful for those learning English or learning Mandarin. Hard back--durable.
Beautifully illustrated. The translation is excellent-- both for my older child who can read pinyin, and her mother who needs the Anglo translation. They're both there. I hope they publish more of these!
I love this book! I read it every night to my baby. It gives great translations and pronunciations. Getting more from this series.
