I bought this for my two children and they LOVE it (almost as much as I do!) The story is sweet and funny. And I won't give it away, but the last page delivers a great punch line. My kids ask me to read it over and over (and over) again. I've already bought copies for some mom-friends because I really like the subtle message (responsibility - sssshhhh! don't tell my children). Crossing my fingers the author puts out more books soon!

Backhoe Joe is such a fun and cute book! My construction-vehicle-loving sons had so much fun with the vibrant pictures and the story. Since my boys love our pet, this was a great way to talk about the idea behind the book and get them using their imaginations. I'm excited to give this book as gifts to my nieces, nephews and other little people in my life!

This book gets two thumbs up from all the three-year-old boys I know! And it's cute enough that you will be able to read it at least 50 times without having to drink heavily. Which is good, because you WILL be reading it a LOT.

What a fun, unique twist for a construction picture book! It is unlike any other out on the market. Lori Alexander's adorable Backhoe named Joe and the boy who takes him home as a stray is sure to be a favorite with kids. Parents will also love this book and it's subtle message of responsibility. The illustrations are fun and JOE is SO cute! The surprise ending will have your kids giggling with delight. Very clever! This book is a must have for your children's library. It is one they will want to read over and over again. And BACKHOE JOE will make the perfect gift for every kid on your list...Christmas, Birthday's, Easter and even those 'just because' days. So be sure to stock up!

If you have a child who loves construction vehicles, as much as mine does, then this book is a winner! My son picks this as his first choice of books to read each night, and asks me to read it multiple times to him. The writing is clear and the story line keeps even a 3 year old interested. He especially LOVES the surprise ending. It makes him giggle every time I read it. Purchase this today! Buy some as gifts! Donate a copy to your local library. This is a must read!

My kids love this book! My son is crazy about construction equipment and my daughter loves books about pets, so a story about a “stray” backhoe is perfect. The illustrations are really well done and we love the look of J.O.E. We've read the book bunches of times and my kids always get a kick out of the surprise ending. If you have girls or boys, this is the best book out there!

Backhoe Joe is a standout from other construction picture books with a fun digger/pet mash-up that makes kids think, "What if?" I love that the story is more substantial than some picture books...it's a story that leaves everyone feeling satisfied, especially with the funny twisty ending. My 9 year old son and 6.5 year old daughter both love this book and now read it on their own. It's definitely the book I'll give for birthdays and holidays this year. Hope Backhoe Joe shows up in another story!

Backhoe Joe is so fresh and original--kids who are interested in construction equipment will love the idea of a pet backhoe. The illustrations are delightful, a fantastic book from start to finish. I liked it so much I bought two copies for my nephews.
