My daughter is 4 1/2 and loves this book. We actually have all 3 (Penguin and Pinecone and Penguin in Love.) We'll get the 4th one when it comes out this summer. This is the best in the series. It's so cute. It's about a penguin who wants to go on vacation somewhere different...somewhere tropical. So he goes to the beach but doesn't know how to play in the sand. He meets a crab who befriends him and shows him how to have fun at the beach. Then crab visits penguin in the Antarctic. It's a tale of friendship. Very cute. My daughter wants to read it every night and has it memorized. I first saw this book at the library one week before we were going on vacation last year (when she was 3 1/2) and thought it might help her understand what vacation is. In the book, when their respective vacations are over it says "All vacations must come to an end. It was time for penguin/crab to go home." I actually used that line when we had to go home because my daughter was crying. As soon as I said that she stopped crying and went to the car.
My almost 2 year old loves this book and we often read it every day. She already liked penguins so she liked seeing this penguin and what he does. We've read it so much that she often "reads" parts of it by herself. In this book penguin goes on vacation, meets a new friend, does new things, then returns home with his friend. The pictures are fun to look at and but not so overwhelming that we can't talk about everything going on. Great book, especially for penguin lovers.
This book has adorable illustrations, and chronicles the travels and new friendship of a South Pole penguin and a crab from the beach. The story of friendship is sweet, and my 2 yo loves the humorous illustrations. Definitely a great book to read after such a long winter!
Penguin is just too cute! The book is simple but a unique twist and interesting concepts for our 4 and 5 year olds. Bright and pleasant illustrations and Penquin has other adventures in other books so that is a plus to continue the series
What a cute story! It is just as sweet and cute as could be. I love board books for little people and this one is great. Our little ones like it a lot. They especially like penguin stories and this one has such a good story in it, too, about being friends and sharing experiences. I don't think you can go wrong with this penguin series and being a board book makes it all that much better. I love the friendship aspects of penguin and crab, too. Great book for little people.
Very nice book on travel and friendship. I liked some of the fine nuances in the illustrations like the ice glacier on which the penguin travels, melting as the sun shines down on it, which will require a minimum of 3 yrs old for a child to understand. I prefer the board book version for this book as it has kiddish illustrations. Recommended age 2-6 yrs. Even though the book looks very childish at the first glance, there is a lot going on that require a certain level of understanding and so below 2 yrs is just too early for this book.
This was the book that my son found on the bookstore shelf that eventually made me search out Salina Yoon's other works. Fun, cute, and sweet, it made both my son and I smile at every page. He still picks this one for nightly readings.
Once again, Salina Yoon has written a great children's book. My friend's son loved Salina's first Penguin book, Penguin and Pinecone. He also loved Penguin on Vacation.Penguin on Vacation teaches children the importance of friendship, just like Penguin and Pinecone did. The book also teaches children to make the best of a bad situation. When Penguin went on vacation, he was upset. Vacation was nothing like what he thought it would be. He couldn't sled, ski, or skate. Instead of moping and sulking for the remainder of his vacation, he did something about it. He made a new friend and learned new things to do. Then he took the thins he learned and showed his friends how to do it when he got home. He also made a life long friendship with crab. I hope that Salina Yoon writes more books about Penguin and his friends.
