This board book teaches shapes by including them in illustrations based around people and things in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic, Treasure Island. So, the left side of each two-page spread features a basic geometric shape, and there are vintage-style, lithograph-like, Treasure-Island-y illustrations on the right, so the triangle is shown in the Hispaniola’s sails, and an oval can be found in Long John SIlver’s eye patch. Great way to introduce my children to the classics!
I love this line of books and this is cute. It doesn't have a story but I wouldn't expect my 18 month old to understand the storyline of Treasure Island anyway. She likes the pictures and has learned her shapes from this book. I'm glad that there are more unisex babylit books available than before. I'm waiting for some Little Master Jules Verne books to come out!
Love this whole series, this one is not my favorite. Some of the shapes are hard for little eyes to discern (ie. white circle on lightly textured light yellow background). When you are trying to drive home the subtle difference of an oval and a circle to the under 2 set - it makes it a bit more difficult. They do repeat the initial shape on the next page in context, which helps, but you would think the main page for the shape would be just as easy.
This is one of the CUTEST books ever!! I love that these don't give spoilers on what is happening, but give you parts of the story, elements, I suppose, while also teaching something. Our family is reading Treasure Island (the one by Robert Louis Stevenson) and I love giving this to my 18 month old to look at while we read. This is our first BabyLit book and we plan on owning many, many more!!
Another great babylit book to add to our collection. My little one loves these books and I enjoy reading them with her. The illustrations are cute and the concepts are simple. Great buy!
BabyLit books are always fun. This one is about shapes, and will show the shape on one page, with many of the shape in an illustration on the facing page.
Find these books entertaining and give them to rug rats who enjoy them and hopefully will read the original when they are older.
