My son is 6 months old and this is his favorite book by far. He likes all the books I read to him, but when he sees this book he gets really excited. He kicks his feet, smiles and "talks" to the pictures and reaches out to touch them. He has a lot of books, but this is the only book that he gets this excited about. If I bring out a stack of books to read to him, he reaches for this one above the others. He especially likes the last page with the pop-up. The images on the pages are very big and simple, and each page is a different color. I think that's why he likes it so much. Other books have too many pictures on the pages and the colors are not as bright and bold. I think the big simple pictures and bright bold colors are more interesting for babies of my son's age. I'm going to buy some other books in the Sesame Beginnings series since he likes this one so much. I even went out and bought him a little Elmo doll so he can hold it while we read his favorite book! He loves it!
My 2 kids loved this book so much (& so hard!) that I ordered a new one for our new baby's arrival. Bright colors, good rhyme, easy to read, captivating to little kids (but you can't leave it unattended w/ them, or they'll try to rip out the pop-up Elmo on the last page!).
One read of this book, and your infant will be flapping his hands, wiggling his feet, and grabbing for one more read of "So Big." My son is wide-eyed as we turn turn the pages to see Baby Elmo sip from a cup, take a bite, stand up straight and hold on tight. You think that "So Big" can't get any better until you get to the last page. SPOILER ALERT: The last page of the book is a life-size version of baby Elmo popping up from the pages. He is literally "So Big." I think my son's head might explode from excitement every time we get to this page. Elmo delivers in this soon-to-be classic you won't want to miss.
My sons are 5 years apart and each of them have LOVED this book as babies/toddlers. There are so many actions for them to imitate. It has bright colors and the surprise pop-up at the end never gets old. My 12-month-old's eyes light up whenever he sees this book. It is an absolute must for any baby's library! Just don't leave your little one alone with it or I guarantee the pop-up Elmo will bite the dust. We have replaced this book twice already!
I bought this book years ago for my son, who still loves it, but also bought it for several friends' kids. It makes a great little present from one kid to another for a 1st birthday. Unlike the 20 large plastic toys they will receive, mom or dad get to sit down and have a special moment reading to baby. This book totally caught my son's attention and held it.
This continues to be a favorite with my 20 mos old son. He started enjoying it about, gosh, 15 mos maybe? Maybe even 12 mos. Now he has most of it memorized (so cute to hear him say La la la and hahaha). And he still loves to see Elmo pop up at the end. a classic in our house for sure.
I had this book when my daughter was 4 months old. She loved it. I bought it again for my son and he loves it. The story is easy to learn and the illustrations are great. The last page is our favorite but it is so flimsy. I had to use paper tape round Elmo's edges to save him from being ripped out.
I had bought this book for my son 8 years ago, and he LOVED it!! It had since fallen apart (Elmo on the last page "pops" out) When I had my new baby girl was 4 months old I decided to look for it again! She is enjoying it, too!The only down side is that the new version is a slighly more flimsy version of the old board book... and the pop-out Elmo in the back is just as precarious (My 2 year-old niece ripped it out within the first 5 minutes) Thus the 4 stars rather than the 5. Otherwise I loooove the story, especially hearing my 8 year-old read it to his sister!!
