IMO, a magnum opus of KGB disinformation that I believe has a use for good, as an educational tool. It does seem that people are super skeptical about corporations but not of unaccountable environmental groups. No offense intended to any environmentalists and other well-intentioned, smart folks - anyone in their right mind appreciates people who are thoughtful of other people and their surroundings, but here's the truth behind many books like this one - they are products of Russian disinformation campaigns.Read Disinformation and stand in awe of the Soviet/Russian machine's disinformation apparatus (bigger than the rest of its military). Allegedly, these guys created most environmental movements (especially the violent ones) during the cold war. The reason for this was to make it more expensive for the US to pump oil, making them more reliant on the Middle East, where, in Russia's backyard, all kinds of chaos could be wrought.Unlike in the West, where private individuals and institutions own oil companies, big Russian companies are state run often because they've been stolen by people backed by the state. Political activist Khodorkovsky met such a fate. Thus, with the state's backing, such companies have unique resources (e.g. military, espionage) to make money in oil and gas.
