I ran into this book by chance and I'm glad I did as it is a fascinating account of days gone by, of special interest of those with immigrant laborer parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. It also gives a front row seat to the very beginnings of the labor movement, in particular as it relates to the Steelworkers unionization of the iron ore mines in Wisconsin and Michigan, Iron & Gogebic counties. In it are the touchstones of history we all know and how they affected Mr. Benzoni, everything from Prohibition to the Great Depression and World War II. The book ends at Mr. Benzoni's retirement which was near the peak of the steel industry and union membership.
