Fueling Freedom: Exposing The Mad War On Energy
ebooks Download

Fossil fuel energy is the lifeblood of the modern world. Before the Industrial Revolution, humanity depended on burning wood and candle wax. But with the ability to harness the energy in oil and other fossil fuels, quality of life and capacity for progress increased exponentially. Thanks to incredible innovations in the energy industry, fossil fuels are as promising, safe, and clean an energy resource as has ever existed in history. Yet, highly politicized climate policies are pushing a grand-scale shift to unreliable, impractical, incredibly expensive, and far less efficient energy sources. Today, "fossil fuel" has become such a dirty word that even fossil fuel companies feel compelled to apologize for their products. In Fueling Freedom, energy experts Stephen Moore and Kathleen Hartnett White make an unapologetic case for fossil fuels, turning around progressives' protestations to prove that if fossil fuel energy is supplanted by "green" alternatives for political reasons, humanity will take a giant step backwards and the planet will be less safe, less clean, and less free.

Stephen Moore seems to be living in the last century. His "facts" are dated. Not long ago I heard Moore claim that solar panels only last 10 years and that since the pay back period is 12 years or so, they are uneconomic. Uh, no. If he had done the least bit of research he would know that solar panels are warranted for 20 years, and studies show panels manufactured since 2000 last for 35 years minimum, and 50 years is more likely. According to the NREL you should get "at least 80% [of the original power] after 50 years. Panels manufactured post 2000 should lose between 0.1% and 0.4% per year." You could get as much as "95% after 50 years if you live in a 'gentle' climate. Little wind and snow loading. Low UV exposure." An honest economist would have calculated the ROI of a solar panel investment with a 12 year pay back period and 23 to 38 years of free electricity. Also unbeknownst to Moore are the facts that solar and wind are already beating natural gas and coal on price, unsubsidized. Someone needs to tell Trump that the coal mines will never be re-opened because coal is no longer cost competitive, even without accounting for its external costs.Moore and his co-author need to read the reports of several investment banks about energy, especially Lazard's "unsubsidized levelized cost of energy" comparison. Wind is now the cheapest energy there is. It was selling for only $.025/kWh three years ago, and it is undoubtedly cheaper now. Also, based on a Harvard School of Public Health study, it is estimated that wind power saved the U.S. $7.2 billion in health costs in 2015 alone. Somehow, economist Moore always fails to mention that poisoning the air and water has real dollar costs.
