I'm a Mom. I am reading this series to my 8 year old at bedtime every night. We read Cube Kid's "Diary of a Wimpy Villager" up to Book 11. While we wait for Book.12 to release we decided to check out Angry Alex...The series is... curious in an odd sort of way. There is very little depth in or attention to detailing character development. In fact, I did not even realize that Alex is a girl until the end of Book 4! My boy knew bc he had studied the covers and noticed her long hair but I had not given much attention to the cover artwork so this detail was missed by me. Which I think is a very important detail, the entire series would have carried a different tone had I known Alex was a girl in the first almost 4 books. I only realized it when I read "she" something in reference to Alex, not because the author made an effort to convey the information.In similar poor character development fashion, detailing who Alex and Steve are, how they came to live together (father and daughter? Brother and Sister? Neighbors from a village destroyed by mobs and they were the lone survivors?), how long they have lived in this same house, how and why the arrangement with Alex farming and Steve mining came to be, why in the world is Alex so angry????The series is fine for bedtime reading and we have continued the series (starting Book 6 tomorrow ) mostly because we started it and since it's Kindle Unlimited we've got nothing to lose. And I might even suggest that the series is superior to other Minecraft Diary Of... Series because it holds my boy's attention enough that he settles down to listen but isn't so exciting or well written that he doesn't fall asleep easily= I usually lose him to his little boy snores about 10 minutes in.
