Wonderful Book. I bought the digital version. Paraphrased the exercises into a Word Template and printed them onto Index cards. I am using those cards as I plot this next novel. So incredibly helpful.

K.M. Weiland explains the process of outlining your novel in a very approachable, understandable manner. That said, if you've bought the original book, as I did, you'll find the material in the workbook rather redundant. Maybe that's just me; while reading the original book I took notes and worked through the steps in my writing journal, making a workbook unnecessary. If you prefer a guided approach, this book is just as thorough as the original format.

I used Outling Your Novel to revise my 80 000-word novella which was my dissertation for an MA in Creative Writing awarded with distinction. The revised version is 145 000 words but had some plot holes. I revised using Outlining a Your Novel and the finished product is an improvement. I will now use the Workbook as a checklist for a final revision.

Informative, very useful, and concise. Highly recommended!

The Outlining Your Novel Workbook has been a great help for me; I think I prefer it to its companion, Outlining Your Novel. I found the topics covered in the first book easier to grasp with the layout in the workbook: there are a lot of questions to answer and I think that helped me understand the topics better, rather than just reading about them in the companion novel. Weiland covers everything from the premise question, to the inciting and key events, to thought-provoking questions on creating unique story elements, to lengthy character interviews and techniques such as personality typing, theme songs, and character "casting" to bring your characters to life. The layout of the workbook is neat and easy to read and understand. Although I've found the workbook more handy, I would still recommend the original book as well, to provide more detail to the techniques laid out in the workbook.

This workbook is absolutely perfect, exactly what I have been looking for. This is giving me the confidence to build a complete outline, and not leave anything important out. Provides excellent tips on how to "push" things a little further, to increase stakes, provide your novel with those precious moments where readers gasp out loud. I appreciate the fact that the author also draws from several other very good books on writing. The style is refreshing and fun to read. Thank you for another outstanding book, we will all become better authors due to your efforts. I am also purchasing the Structuring Workbook today.

Normally, I'm a pantser but I knew the novel I'm working on was going to require more planning and I needed an intervention. Still, I have a phobia when it comes to outlines, all those Roman Numerals, indentions, and research. Then I found Ms. Weiland's Outlining Your Novel: Map Your Way to Success. It was liberating. This was something I could do. So as soon as the Outlining Your Novel Workbook came out I bought it. Finally I'd found an outlining process more like my own way of creating a story. Love it.

Any work by K M Weiland is worthy of attention. I've found this book to be highly useful. It really does go step-by-step, just as it promises. Outlining may seem time consuming but it saves time (not mention stories) to follow this process. Lots of information in this book, its worth reading more than once.
