These are one of those things that has you think to yourself "Why didn't I think of this?" And when you were a kid, you probably did. By this I mean, you probably were bored reading stale history books and instead wished the information were given in more entertaining stories that would make the information easier to recall. And this series of books do that. This book can be a clever way of getting kids into history. The author knows how to catch the reader's attention and help children think critically. I was beyond impressed with this author's work.I received this Elizabethan England children's book for free. My reviews are done in compliance with FTC regulations and 's TOS. The first thing I noticed was how wonderful and vibrant the illustrations are.As an American who learns about England through KQED, This book educated me about the life of a regular citizen, their cares, duties, and what their hardships might be.I enjoyed learning how the expression "it's raining cats and dogs" originated. I found the part about "fish-days" interesting, and am truly grateful that I don't have to wear as many layers of clothing as women of that period.Carole P. Roman has a wonderful way of mixing a bit of humor into this fact-filled book. This book has a very educational glossary, and a link to associated coloring pages easily lending itself to lesson plan creation.I truly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it!
I am a huge fan of the Tudor history and the Elizabethan time. When I saw these books I immediately wanted them and applied for them. They arrived at my house extremely quickly, in fact from the time I got the notification that I was approved, they were in my mailbox two days later. When I opened them I was very pleasantly surprised because the pictures in the box are absolutely beautiful, they use deep dark coloring which was more common for the time, and they were very detailed. While reading these books to my children I appreciated the fact that the author attempted to get as close to being accurate as possible while still ensuring that she broke it down to a level that even young children would understand. She also made sure to include an area in the back of the back which broke down different phrases or people that children might not know. My kids absolutely love these books, my daughter keeps making my son read it to her over and over. I am so glad to add these to our library. With the book on England the author was even generous enough to include a bonus book on colonial America. Which was also beautiful, very accurate and it even included the first thanksgiving. It is a book that I think we are going to start reading every year before Thanksgiving because it tells the story so beautifully and reminds us of so many things that we have to be grateful for.**disclaimer** I did receive these products either free or at a reduced price for my honest and unbiased opinion. I've always loved the way books can take you to different places and teach you while You're enjoying the book. These books are no less amazing. If you were Me and Lived in Elizabethan England and If you were Me and Lived in the American West are both wonderful examples of that. I really like how you are given a character within the book and yet you learn more about the time.Did I mention that the illustrations are amazing as well? I think these would be wonderful for children to learn about either one of these times.Even me reading the books learned something and that's a wonderful thing.I received this item at no cost in exchange for my honest opinion
"If You Were Me and Lived in...Elizabethan England" is another interesting book for children from the "If You Were Me and Lived in...Ancient Times" series. To start off there are two depictions of what London, England looked liked in the 1600's and what it looks like today. Then the question is asked to find some differences between the then and now pictures. It goes on from there to explain what the time period is called, who the queen was, who the wealthy people were, what kind of golden age it was, popular boy and girls names, where you would have lived, how often you would have ate and what you would've eaten and drank, what you would've wore, what you would've done for fun, what currency was called, what your education was like if you were a boy or a girl, how plays were organized, what religion you would've followed, etc. There is also a list of important people to learn about from the Elizabethan era and a glossary of terms used in the back of the book. This book is a good way for children to learn about what life was like for children during the Elizabethan era. They will most likely notice a lot of differences in how it was for them then compared to how it is for them now in the country that they live in. I think that they will also notice how important art and theatre was back then. One thing I am not sure if children will understand is about how religion happened back then, although I am glad it was brought up...it kind of sounded like people were forced back then to believe in certain religions, depending on who was heading the country. In my opinion, this is another great series by Carole P. Roman to cross some differences and similarities with certain topics in different countries during ancient times.I received this book free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
