World History Biographies: Galileo: The Genius Who Charted The Universe (National Geographic World History Biographies)
ebooks Download

Galileo made the first effective use of the refracting telescope to discover important new facts about astronomy. His observations led him to support Copernicus's claim that Earth and the other planets circled the sun. This conflicted with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and brought Galileo before the judges of the Inquisition. He spent his final years under house arrest.Galileo's genius lay in the way he approached scientific problems. He reduced problems to simple terms on the basis of experience and common-sense logic. Then he analyzed and resolved the problems according to simple mathematical descriptions, thus opening the way for the development of modern mathematical physics.National Geographic supports K-12 educators with ELA Common Core Resources.Visit www.natgeoed.org/commoncore for more information.

I read these National Geographic history books with my 4th grade son in the evenings. The pictures are great, the text is well written, informative, and we both learn something without it being ... dry. It is especially fun to talk about when the greats lived in relation to each other and other historical events. Looks like Galileo was trying to convince the Catholic church that the sun, not earth, was the center of the solar system just about the same time settlers were arriving in Jamestown. Academic debate versus practical use of powers of observation...

I ordered this book for my brother, who is interested in everything Astronomy. He totally enjoyed it and talked about it so much, I had to read it too.Lots of interesting information. A good read.

Age appropriate, informative, beautiful illustrations. Would recommend parents to have it it their homes for their new readers, explorers. Nat Geo has always captured my attention, even before there was the internet.

Galileo, The Genius Who Faced the Inquisition, has a beautiful layout that is filled with interesting facts, photos, and a detailed timeline describing the life and work of Galileo Galilei. This book is perfect for intermediate ages students on up for a biography report or to expand their understanding on Galileo and the effects the Catholic church had on scientific advancement during this time in history.
