Book was in condition as listed with mild writing in it and in good outer condition. As someone who already speaks Mandarin and just likes to have basic books around as reminders, it's perfect. But for any new learner I would not recommend this book system if you also want to know how to write, because it has little to no character use.
This was a required book for my daughter in order to skip the first level of high school Chinese and go directly into the second level in ninth grade this coming fall. She is doing a couple of chapters a day on her own, along with the textbook. As she had previous background in Chinese, there is no problem. However, I imagine if this was her first encounter with Chinese, this book would not have been much help.
