A fun and kid-friendly introduction to Chinese! The Tuttle Chinese for Kids Flash Cards (Simplified Character Edition) kit is an introductory Chinese language learning tool especially designed to help children from preschool through early elementary level acquire basic words, Chinese characters, phrases, and sentences in Chinese in a fun and easy way.The flashcards can be used as a learning tool in a classroom setting, at home, or anywhere that learning takes place, and can easily be taped around the room for an interactive way to learn Chinese. The set contains a total of 64 words, which all represent a range of sounds in Mandarin Chinese, organized into thematic categories, including: My Family, Colors, Numbers, Animals, Food, My Body, Clothes, and My Day. All of the words are illustrated—the pictures serve as effective visual aids to help children learn and remember each word's meaning. Words often reflect cultural objects and items and can be studied in any order. Learners may focus on one theme at a time or mix them up for a little more variety.

I love these flash cards. If I had to make my own Mandarin flash cards, I would make them just like these. The poster (included) is great, too. I am studying Mandarin with my 3-year-old daughter, and these cards are fun, clear, and easy to use. I just wish they could have included more words. I hate having to use other flash cards for the words not covered here. I will happily buy the next volume as soon as it's available. These cards are MUCH better than any others that I've seen (especially those desined for adults.) These cards include lots of information, but they are also very well laid out, with easy-to-understand pictures and stroke-order writing diagrams on the back. I couldn't ask for more. Well done!

I received this as a gift before my family and I moved to Shanghai for one year. It was just as helpful to me as it was to my children. The flashcards are well-organized and the layout of information on the back is extremely informative, but not overwhelming. The enclosed booklet contains a helpful Learning Guide, lyrics to songs, vocabulary, and character radicals. The accompanying CD is also well-done...just listening to it as we went through the flashcards was very productive for us. The few songs on the CD are all well known songs by Chinese children. The kit also helped me learn pinyin and improve my pronunciation. When we lived in China, I hung up the poster in our playroom and the kids and I referred to it often. I also bought Volume 2 while I was there. I can't say enough good things about these sets, they are an excellent first step into learning Mandarin.

I bought this for my four year old. I was hoping this would help him learn the characters. Since we speak Chinese at home, he already knows how to speak those words. However, the cards have the charater and pictures printed on the same side so if I quiz him, he just guesses the characters. The poster was pretty good. I am using the poster to teach my one year old the colors and food etc.

We did not find these as useful as most reviewers. The cards are small and not particularly engaging. The poster was not very useful, maybe because I don't speak Mandarin and worry about teaching the wrong pronunciation. My grandsons (4 & 6) and I much prefer working with the book, "First Thousand Words in Chinese," which has pages of humorous and child relevant illustrations and has an internet link to help us master the correct pronunciation.

I bought these for my 7 yo. When I suggested learning chinese, he was absolutely not interested. I encouraged him, and within 5 minutes of using these cards he was hooked. We study every night. Chinese is such a beautifully constructed language. My only issue is that you only get 64 cards. That lasted us about a week (although we continue to review them).I would have loved it if they gave us about 2x as many cards.I have looked at many ipad applications etc, but I haven't found anything that is as much fun and is as easy to learn.

These flash cards are great for teaching children chinese. They have pinyin, character, picture and how to write the character on the back. They have it separate by categories in different colors, so it makes it easy to teach my kids in sections/categories. So far my 4 year old knows all the knows by characters and some animals and body parts. I have not taught them others, so they don't get overwhelmed by all the new words. This is a great set with a CD, poster paper, and many flash cards. I would recommend this to people.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. When we opened it there was no audio CD and no learning guide. All we have is a wall chart and flashcards. I wanted to return it, but it is no longer eligible for return.I am really dissatisfied. I will never buy anything from these people again.

Out of the half dozen products for learning Chinese that I have purchased for my kids, these stand out as far and away the best. I am very, very pleased with the results of these flash cards and they are an excellent learning tool. In a little over a month, both my four year old son and my 6 year old daughter have learned to recognize and say (in Mandarin) everything on the cards. They are even starting to write the Chinese script and my daughter has mastered 1-10 in Mandarin writing. They both love the cards, are excited about using them, and like listening to the vocal recordings of people saying the words. The sentences with the words in them are too tough for them at this stage, so I mostly just skip over them after listening to just the individual word, but I can see how they would be useful at a later time. This is a great product and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I have already ordered volume two.
