Purchased this for one of my granddaughters who was spending time with me this past summer. She already loves math and had a nice time going through this workbook. Just challenging enough for a kindergarten math lover. In fact, the public school where she is a first grader now sends her up to 2nd grade math class.
Way too easy. This book is not for 1st-grade students. It is for K students. There are a lot of games, but no serious work. I bought a similar book for first graders in France and it is much better, more complicated, more comprehensive, etc. I hope this book is not a reflection of the level of our first graders in the U.S. I don't recommend this product at all. Please, find a real workbook. This one is simply a 'toy'.
My son is in 1/2 day kindergarten and needed some extra activities to keep him busy and help him learning. They are sponges at this age. I bought this book and am very happy with it. He asks to work on his math book and is learning great concepts. As a high school teacher, I'm very excited to see how the math concepts are being taught in this book rather than just memorizing how to do it. I've recommended it to several friends.
I see a lot of great reviews, but for my son, a lot of the worksheets were redundant. I know that repetitious practice is good, but the things that really need to stick in the child's mind, like addition and subtraction, were minimal, while there were too many exercises on geometry and puzzles. It was more like "busy work" than supplemental learning, for us. Harcourt workbooks are so much simpler layout, with a progressive approach. Check them out before you spend the $ on this workbook.
Very nicely put together and makes math interesting to kids. We use sylan books for all home teaching. This can be introduced to kindergarteners so they can start early.
My daughter enjoyed using this workbook. She struggled with math in first grade, so I got this to use over the summer to hopefully fills in the gaps on stuff she maybe didn't understand. It did help and she learned extra material that wasn't covered at school. This may even give her an advantage for the 2nd grade. I also ordered the 2nd Math workbook to use as well.
This book is really for Kindergarten. Love that it has all the lessons broken down and easy to use. Great!
I purchased this workbook for my granddaughter who is struggling with math concepts. Her Mom has her do a few pages everyday and it appears to be helping her. Well worth the cost.
