I love this practice book. I am a teacher and bought this for our daughter who has a very difficult time with word problems. These problems start out fairly simply and move to much more difficult, multi-step problems. The word problems are much like what will be on her exams next year in the 3rd grade which is ONE reason I purchased this edition. There IS higher level thinking skills for a 2nd-3rd grade student. Our daughter actually likes the format of this book and there is room beneath each problem to show the work of the student which is very important. We want our students to show HOW they reached the answer they reached and in doing so, the educator or parent will be able to see where and how they are thinking out their answer. I take the problem given and once she reaches the answer, create another, very similar problem on a separate sheet of paper to reinforce. We do ONLY 1-2 problems per night and if she struggles, I create the same sort of problem on paper and use that the next evening. In this way, the concept is being reinforced again. Also useful, when creating your own problem, use the name of your child IN the problem or the name of a pet, another family member, etc. This piques the interest for the child(ren). This has nothing to do with the actual review here but may help a parent who might come across this review. I teach special needs students and this works well for all students to grab their attention and keep it.The print in this book is also fairly large and easy on the eyes for the reader. This is important for the younger set and/or a child with a learning disability in reading such as Dyslexia. Our daughter has Dyslexia and does not struggle with the print within this workbook. The creators of this book kept that in mind.
