Book Report by JacobTitle: I Survived The Bombing of Pearl Harbor, 1941Author: Lauren TarshisThis is my first book report so forgive me if it goes a little off track. I usually find it hard to choose to read over other activities such as watching TV or playing outside, so finding a book was more of a stab in the dark. The cover illustration seemed exciting enough with battleships on fire and a boy running from fighter planes. Sold! This book was exciting from the very beginning. In the first chapter the main character, Danny who is 11, finds himself out in the open running from Japanese bomber planes. The story takes place more than 70 years ago on Hawaii near a military air base next to Pearl Harbor. It is sunny there with both yellow flowers and palm trees and from Danny's house you can clearly see a view of Pearl Harbor with nearly 100 warships. Around the world at the same time, there were two major wars with both Japan and Germany invading surrounding countries. The United States was not at war, yet. This story begins 2 days before the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan.Danny is originally from New York City. There he had learned to live in a tough city environment but he had friends and none closer than his best friend Finn. They could get themselves into trouble but always had each others back. That changed one day when they both were playing on a fire escape and Finn fell 15 feet to the ground below. Danny's mom was worried that Danny needed to be in a safer place and so she got a nursing job at Hickam air base on Hawaii. Moving away from his friend was very hard on Danny. He felt like he abandoned his hurt friend when Finn needed him the most.
