I was a USAF Combat Controller during the Vietnam war. This book gives a very brief history of Combat Controllers from WWII when they were called Pathfinders, to the present day. It is written for a young audience and focuses mainly on the duties for USAF Special Operations today. I bought this for my granddaughters so they could understand what grandpa did during the war. Please understand that this is a book written for the upper grades in elementary school. Grades 4 to 6 I believe. It was a good buy for the price and I am happy to share it with my grandchildren.

This book was written as part of a series for esl or non reading adults to provide some adult topics while expanding reading skills. If you are a reader and bought it to learn about the subject, you will be dissapointed. If you bought it for a youngster to improve on skills and provide an action topic, you may be more pleased. All my grandkids have a copy, because I am in it.....

For 2 graders, i hoping this would be atleast marginally informative to share with people what I do, but it is not...fail

I bought this for my husband and he loves military books. Even as a children's book its really entertaining. Great!

This book is 50 pages long (including the index, table of contents, and the copyright.) It took maybe 10 or 15 minutes to read (with time in which to think about the contents.)From the pictures and the vocabulary I would put this book in the range of a 5th or 6th grade student. It's left out a great deal of history and doesn't cover the training in any detail. There is a great lack of material on the history and training of Combat Control Teams. Much less their current organization (as CCTs or as part of Special Tactics Teams.) I spent several years with a USAF special operation squadron (when it was under TAC) and all I ever met were PJs, Army SF and Rangers. The only time I heard of CCTs was when they went through Kesler AFB looking for people and when an article appeared in Airman magazine (some time in 1975 I think.) At that time there was just the 1st Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt and a lot fewer SpecOps people of any type. All in all, I would have enjoyed a 200 to 300 page book covering the history (from the Army Pathfindrs) to the present in much greater detail (selection, in school training, unit level training and specialties, relations with the regular Air Force, with the other services SpecOps forces, and finally their deployments and successes.)
