!!!!Be aware of what you are purchasing!!!!! I just realized the version that says "introductory" in the title is NOT the full text! Who the hell puts a book online under the same name with a one word difference??? This should be clearly spelled out for people that are not aware that you can purchase a full version as well as a short version which apparently has "introductory" in the title. I thought introductory meant introductory to the material. Introductory has 449 pages 10 chapters, and full version has over 656 pages and 15 chapters. should list all this information. I will be asking for my money back!!
Be aware that the Kindle version is only the "Introductory" version of the book meaning that it only has 10 chapters. The "Complete" version is only available via hard copy here at . The hardcopies are ISBN 0132091534, which is the number for the Complete version required by some college level courses.
For a textbook, this book is well worth it's price. However, I recommend that if your course requires a lab code, it's best if you purchase the bundle instead of buying them both separately. I made that mistake and regret it. If you only need the textbook, this is a great chance to get it.
Exactly what I needed for Penn State's IST 110 class. It has all 15 chapters, and the book is current edition.
Only 3 stars given because the kindle version is the INTRODUCTORY one. All was great until mid-semester when we get past chapter 10, and I'm looking to complete my assignment. Guess what! Only up to Chapter 10 available on the kindle!
For what I needed it for, it fell short...for some reason, the book stops at Chapter 10. That would be great if I didn't still have 3 weeks of class with quizzes on chapters beyond Chapter 10.
I teach a university-level introductory computer class. One nice benefit of being a professor is publishers like to send you text books for review. Right now I'm reviewing a stack of introductory computer books. Digital Planet is one of the best I have reviewed so far. It covers all the topics you would expect in an introductory text and includes just enough human interest stories to keep the reader engaged. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a better understanding of computers and the digital revolution.
I was required to have this for a college class. The book is more like a giant technology magazine with pictures and technical descriptions of cell phones, digital cameras, video, the internet, MP3 music, and computers. It doesn't challenge you like a textbook, its more like a quick reference guide to newer technology. I have sold many of my old textbooks after the class was over, but this one I kept because it contains so much useful information! Although its a college textbook, I feel that any grade level would find this book useful.
