My 8-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son LOVE this book. Each double-page spread covers one aspect of the American Revolution, breaking it into small, easy-to-understand chunks for them. The illustrations are well done and help tell the story. We read 3 or 4 pages each night because they keep begging for more. After just a few nights of reading it at bedtime, they can both explain the Stamp Act, the Quartering Act, the French and Indian War, the Boston Tea Party, taxation without representation, as well as identifying some key people in the revolution. I am so amazed. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to teach history to their children, and I am hoping to find more like it!
As a homeschooling mom and one who was not born in the US, I am always looking out for historical books that will make American History not only easy for me understand, but also fun for the kids. This book is beyond excellent, it is absolutely fabulous!!! This is by far the best, simpliest and most interesting account of the events that led to the revolutionary war that I have ever read ( I have read plenty).
I bought this book to use with my 8th graders whose subject matter is US History. I read portions of it to them and created it into a great resource book. I would recommed this to other teachers.
Terrific all-around Revolutionary War book that the entire family can learn from. This one belongs on your child's bookcase. The illustrations are clear and in-depth, the writing style is informative, the size of the book is extra-large 9X12".This is very well done. Good maps at the beginning and end of the book.
This book is full of valuable illlustrations and iformation. It is a bit weighty to read with kids all at once, but reading 2-4 pages a day it's a great guide to the events leading up to the Revolutionary war and American independence
My school bought enough copies of Liberty for the 150+ students in our 5th Grade classes over a year ago. We love this text because it is written at a more accessible reading level for our students, with rich and engaging illustrations to "show, not just tell" what is happening. The book truly makes the Revolution more interesting for our kids and, I must admit, for teachers, too. It can be used as a stand-alone text to teach the Revolution (depending on how in-depth you need to go) or as a supplement to the typical Social Studies textbook. It makes for a great addition to any Common Core-aligned unit. Definitely recommend!
I used this book as an introduction to the American Revolution with my 11 and 13 year old children. (We're Canadian!) The book contains easily understood information, in a reader-friendly format of short interest pieces. The illustrations assisted in retaining the information, and although my 13 year old son found them to be "young", he recalls much of the content in part because of the pictures. My 11 year old has asked for additional books in this series, and has gone back into the book for interest and review. A good purchase for my family.
This lovely book arrived quickly and in excellent condition for me to use in eighth grade social studies as a launch for the unit on the Revolutionary War. Our English Language Learners love books like this to refer to since our textbook is WAY too much for them. Thank you!
