I love all of Jon's books but this one is particularly special for several reasons. First it is a true story about an amazing young man whose example continues to influence others more than ten years after his death. If you can read this without being emotionally touched you might want to check your pulse.Second, while there are thousands of books with strategies to be a leader there are far fewer on how to lead by being a follower and by being a servant. What so inspired me about George's story was the way he became a leader without trying to be a leader.And third, the book is filled with lots of great ideas for being a better teammate and a better friend - and a better person.
Having read all of Jon Gordon's other books, picking this one up was a no brainer. Very quickly I realized that this book was very different from the others. After reading this book you can add my life to the number of people that George has touched and made better. I strongly recommend this book for anyone that wants more from life. In reading this book it has cemented the realization that to get more from life I have to be and give more. Thank you George!
Our company gave each department a hard hat and each department had to nominate a person to receive the hard hat. I was the recipient for my department and wasn't real familiar with the meaning behind it so I purchased this book. I have to tell you that this book is so inspiring despite the tragedy that begins the message. I have taken each point and have posted them throughout my office, to remind me to stay true to my personal and work ethics. Great story. I recommend it to anyone looking to build a team and learn how to be a leader.
I really enjoyed the perspective this book took on differently than his other ones. Gave a personal touch rather than his other stories. Very good lessons like his other books, really good story, but hearing the impact of what an individual team member can make when they do the things Gordon talks about makes you want to see the results.Definitely recommend if you enjoy his other books, are a coach or athlete, or just love lacrosse (which I know nothing about).
A wonderful story about a young man many would look up to. A true story that Mr. Gordon documented with several people. A great write, an easy read, and a book that will make you look at yourself deeply and ask many hard questions.
This book is one of the best Jon Gordon has written in his collection! It is one that you can't put down and can be read from cover to cover in 90 minutes. Quite a story -very inspiring. I'm considering having my captains read it for my next soccer season.
As a High School Activities Director, I am always looking to find ways to challenge, encourage and stretch my Athletic Coaching Staff. I was able to couple Gordons' The Hard Hat and You Win in the Locker Room First and present an excellent platform for discussion throughout the season along with during their evaluation.
Overall this was a short but excellent read. I was inspired by the story of George and how he was able to impact his teammates and family after is death. I liked the fact there were pictures of George at the end of the book to make him more human. Which leads to my only issue: the book made George look so transcendent that he could have been Jesus. I believe that he was an enormous blessing to be around. With that being said it seemed he did everything except forgive sins and walk on water. I am being harsh but actually think it was the one thing that took away from an otherwise phenomenal reading.
