Absolutely the best rabbit book around! This guy has been raising rabbits since he was a little kid and he really knows his stuff. He has a wonderful concept (and I haven't seen this anywhere else) for building and setting up rabbit cages. He talks about things (like raising earth worms beneath the rabbit cages) that other people don't even mention. He has excellent advise about the nuts-and-bolts of raising rabbits (how often to breed, how to kindle in cold climates, how to feed, etc). If I could only have ONE rabbit book this would be it. And be sure to get the most recent edition (I think it was published in 2009 or 2010). It really is different (more updated and better) than previous editions. Also, the best price I found for this book was on .com.

I was initially very excited about this book, hoping that it would be a good reference about raising rabbits for meat. I was quite disappointed and I felt like it was more about Mr. Bennet's opinion that Tan's are the best with a few informational tidbits thrown in. It was definitely not all bad, the ideas about the hutches and cage building were great. I found that quite a few meat breed rabbits were completely left out of this book, especially the heritage breeds. I was not looking for a book that provided me with information about where to sell rabbits, pelts, or meat. Nor was I looking for a book that told me how to have a rabbitry as a business or how to select rabbits for showing. I was looking for a book that could guide me through raising rabbits as a source of food for my family, start to finish. I just felt like this book was lacking alot of what I needed and provided alot of what I did not.

Very helpful book for those wanting to raise a bunch of rabbits!I love how practical this writer is! He covers rabbits being great for so many purposes and how to enjoy the benefits of each of those purposes. ie.* raising, care and breeding (of course)* also killing and dressing them up for meals and how healthy they are to eat* selling young to various markets/sources* using their droppings for excellent fertilizer (and even to sell as fertilizer)* ideas of having a worm farm with that fertilizer (for even further money making avenues)the list goes on.... it's a great book, highly recommended!

There seems to be two rival audiences for this book: the breeder and the pet owner. Although this book presents pretty much everything either one of them will need to do what it is they want to do, the pet owners are put off by the slaughter sections. Hopefully putting aside any subjective values, I think this book serves both camps admirably. The breeder is easily satisfied but, in the author's defense, I don't think the "I just want a Mopsy" camp can be appeased without completely eliminating sections crucial to the breeder camp. Topics I found wanting or missing: 1) For the pet camp, house breaking. 2) For the breeder, tanning. 3) Also for the breeder, more on slaughter and cleaning. I may be being too critical on this last topic since, because I am personally so unsure in this area, I was left wanting. Perhaps the topic is adequately covered but my own insecurities makes me feel like I'm missing something. Bottom line (and isn't this what we all want): If you're thinking about rabbits, get this book.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. A good descriptive book that talks to the reader like they are right there. Bob takes you through his years of experience in rabbit raising. He tells you how to start right, and how to make your rabbitry something that you can enjoy for years to come. It is a very good beginners book as well as an expert book. No matter where you are in the proccess of raising rabbits, Bob talks about the modern ways that you can improve.

If you're searching for a book on how to raise rabbits, you'll come across Bob Bennett's name frequently, because Mr. Bennett is the absolute authority on raising these animals. Whether you are just starting out or a skilled rabbit rancher, Storey's Guide to "Raising Rabbits" is a must-have book for your library. Mr. Bennett's book is a revised edition of his Raising Rabbits the Modern Way. Nothing is left out this time---over 64 pages of information has been added to this edition. You'll find yourself referring to this book often if you want to raise rabbits successfully. And Mr. Bennett's no-nonsense approach to the mating and butchering of what some may consider delicate subjects, makes the material readable by all family members. The best part---all topics has been updated right to the most recent prices. And Raising Rabbits is loaded with resources to guide you to other relevant projects such as composting, growing your own feed, raising worms for sale and tanning for profit. Bob guides you chapter by chapter for building a most successful rabbitry that should prosper for generations to come.

This book covers any questions a beginner might have for his/her rabbitry. I had done countless hours of reading and research on the internet and still found valuable information in this book for beginning my own rabbitry. Half of the information I had read online I was unable to go back and find again. This book has everything I had read online plus tons more of information, and I now have a copy to refer to whenever I need it.*If you plan to keep a rabbit as a fluffy, soft, cuddly pet, this book is probably not for you. This is a farm guide and written as such.
